DESCRIPTION OF PROGRAMS

Often when an individual hears the words Rape Crisis of the Southern Tier, he/she immediately thinks a rape has just occurred in Chemung, or Schuyler, or Steuben county.  Although that is true, rapes do occur in the three counties that we serve and Rape Crisis may be called by the victim or someone who knows the victim, or by the hospital, or by law enforcement.  We do so much more than just respond to a rape that just happened.

Rape Crisis of the Southern Tier (RCST) provides services and information to individuals and the community to help prevent sexual violence and to keep individuals from becoming first time offenders of sexual violence.  One way that we do this is by offering educational programs on a wide variety of sexual violence topics to the community free of charge.

These presentations are available to:

·       community groups

·       schools

·       colleges

·       hunger service agencies

·       organizations

·       service clubs

·       businesses

·       faith communities

·       hospitals

·       law enforcement

Programs are available for audiences as young as preschoolers and as old as senior citizens.  They are adapted to the needs, interests, and developmental level of the group requesting the program.  All programs are interactive and provide age appropriate handouts for participants.  School programs are designed to meet the requirements of NYS Standards.

AMAZING ME! MARVELOUS ME!

These programs are designed as broadbased interactive lessons to encourage girls and boys to strengthen their positive self-esteem and self-worth in a group setting.

The goal is to help them grow in the direction of a positive, healthy attitude in relating to self and others.

Positive self-esteem and healthy attitudes do not make issues go away, issues that children and youth face growing up today.

However, when children and youth feel good about themselves, they are smarter about what they do and their vulnerability to victimization and bullying is reduced.

Goals of the program:

  • Helping girls gain confidence, and understanding of themselves and friendships, building self-esteem and reducing vulnerability.
  • Helping boys gain confidence, and an understanding of themselves, reducing the risks of being bullied, bullying, and being a bystander of bullying behaviors.

Targeted Audience:

  • Girls between the ages of 4 to 18 years
  • Boys between the ages of 5 to 18 years

Time Frame:  Each series is four 45 minute to one hour lessons.
