Mission Statement
All people have the right to live free from sexual violence.
Rape Crisis of the Southern Tier provides comprehensive,
direct services to any person affected by sexual violence in Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben
counties. By raising community awareness, providing education and promoting
volunteerism, RCST works to improve community response to sexual violence. |
SERVICES
Rape Crisis of the Southern Tier serves a tri-county
area including Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben counties.
Our services extend
beyond crisis counseling and accompaniments.
The list of services
includes:
- Short-term
counseling for the victim, for family members, and/or friends.
Counseling is free and confidential.
- Hospital Accompaniments
are provided 24 hours a day by RCST. Counselors are mandated to be
at the hospital within one hour of receiving the call. Below is a list of

Accompaniment and
Advocacy
When navigating the legal procedures if your case goes to court
- Information and Referrals
are provided to other services, if needed, such as therapy and
social service agencies. Counselors also provide assistance in accessing
reimbursement though the
New York State Crime Victims Board.
- Lending library
of materials, books, and videos is available at our Horseheads
locations.
- Educational
programs for all ages on a wide variety of topics related to sexual
violence, the law, consent, rape, personal safety, and prevention.
Contact Rape Crisis Community Education if you are interested in
scheduling a program for your school, business, agency, group or
organization.
- Community and
professional training workshops and short informational programs.
Check events for details on upcoming workshops.
- Volunteer
opportunities including the 30 hour NYS Department of Health Rape
Crisis Training, needed to become a counselor/ advocate, is provided by
RCST. Check volunteer for details regarding
training and opportunities.
- Internships
